I was worried so on Wednesday morning I scheduled her an appointment for the afternoon. By the time Sean and I got home, her whole mouth was drenched in drool (a sign of mouth pain). She just wanted to be left alone, but we managed to shove her in the cat carrier with little fanfare. I think she was feeling too bad to fight, poor Mitten.

Reminder: Mitten Head has had all her teeth but her canines removed.

The vet takes her drooly self back and returns. Mitten’s little mouth is apparently on fire. There are still roots that neither she nor Sean’s uncle could see when they were removing teeth. So we were being referred to a feline dental specialist.

Sean and I have a referral in on Friday to go to UGA to have our cat’s mouth x-rayed and to determine another treatment plan. I hate this because it’s getting seriously expensive (we’re now foregoing our vacation this year to take care of Mitten’s mouth). But I wouldn’t want her to be in pain/going to the vet every two weeks (even though the vet is just down the road).

I’m grateful because who knows if they would have caught this early enough at the shelter if we hadn’t adopted her. And it’s not like she’s the most friendly cat around, so maybe they wouldn’t have even noticed until she’d stopped eating.

Hopefully this will be the last time we have to get serious treatment for her. I just want her to feel better and be the spunky, happy Mitten she was before.

Sean’s bee playing some Star Wars video game, so we’ve been Star Wars-ing everything. I don’t claim to be a Star Wars aficionado in any form. In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen all the movies all the way through. Don’t judge me. I’ve tried. Sleep takes over…

I decided, however, that Pudge was born a Sith and decided to come to the non-Dark Side. He has the potential to be Pudge Vader, but decided to be a padawan instead to become a Jedi.

Tesla is like Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He’s sensitive to the force, and all about following the rules, but all business when he decides to break them.

And Mitten Head? She’s totally Queen Amidala. Serious appearance, sneaky, smart, and all the cools.

Sean and I have a lot of time to think about these things…

It’s terrible how reward-based I am with EVERYTHING. I need to know I’m working for something though, and not just spinning my own wheels.

The point of this rambling? I’ve been totally slacking on practicing the Turbo Kick routine that I was trained in about a month ago. Things just got hectic (as they tend to do) and it got pushed to the wayside with a little practicing here and a little there, but no real commitment. Why? Because there was no rush to learn it ASAP. I mean, it’s not like I was signed up to teach it anytime soon, right?

Alas, I kept saying that my technique sucked and the reason I wasn’t teaching yet was because I wanted to learn it really well. See the circle of excuses here?

So this weekend I told myself I’d dedicate a serious amount of time to learning the routine and practice my cueing. After many hours spent sweating, writing notes, punching air, calling cues to no one… Well, I feel like I’ve gotten nowhere. And that’s frustrating as hell.

Party Pooper

I know it’s my own fault. I could be kicking ass at teaching right now if I’d set myself a regular practice schedule at least 3 times a week. It would have been easy to fit in, but I pushed it aside. Now I’m super frustrated with my complete lack of progress (which is a lack for obvious reasons). That, and I really don’t want to disappoint the people who are encouraging me in the process by making excuses and then sucking.

“Carolyn’s had a month to learn this… Why does she still look like someone who’s never even been to a class?”

After spending an hour trying to memorize one section–and failing–I decided to teach myself a lesson. Always a good method, right?

Sunday Workout

So I did five sets with no breaks–and then mixed it up after the first set by adding in the Bosu. Bosu push ups, one-footed planks on the Bosu, Bosu lunges, etc.

That’ll teach me to slack off. I hope I’m sore as hell on Monday.

Sean’s agreed to help me with my Turbo routine, and to help me stick to a practicing schedule. Even if it’s only 30 minutes to an hour every other day, I’ve got to get a move on this. Help me out, people. Keep me accountable!

 Happy Thursday!

However, I was MEGA sore afterward, and instead of chillaxing like I probably should have, I continued running, kickboxing, boxing, etc. I felt a little pull on Tuesday kickboxing. Then a little more on Wednesday. Then a little more on Thursday, but kept pushing. I figured if I took Friday off, it’d calm down.

Well, this past Sunday. I made Sean get out in the sub-30 degree temperatures to play again. He would have stayed home if I’d let him.

Anyway, Sean and I were warming up before the game and the first pass of the warm-up felt like my quad was ripping in half. I really want to spend my Valentine’s Day working out. Kikcboxing. Practicing Turbo Kick.

Instead, I’m supposed to be resting. Like a lamesaucefaceasaurus. Thankfully, some people know how to make it better. And maybe I’ll sneak into kickboxing anyway. Bwa ha ha ha!

I hope your Valentine’s Day is less lame than mine. (Note: I’m writing this the night before. Sean may have some great event planned. I’m not betting on it, but I’m not upset about it.) My coworker Kelsey sent me this hilarious Valentine. I wish it for you, too.

So you cut the paper to cover the tube of candy and glue it on (I used low-temp hot glue). On one end you glue the Kiss, point facing out. And on the other end, you glue the Reese’s cup with the narrow side in… So it looks like a rocket. If you want you can add flames & a cute rocket-themed saying.

Neato, right?

On to the Robots.

For these you need all kinds of scrapbooking papers, googly eyes, and mini candy bars. Cut small strips of paper that will cover the mini-candies’ wrappers. From there, cut out mini cards, arms, legs, heads, etc. Glue your paper-covered candy bar to the mini cards. That will be your robot’s body. From there, add legs, arms, etc. You can customize this one as much as you want! Here’s my finished product:

Did I mentioned it’s 26 degrees out right now? Yikes! Sean doesn’t want to go, but in my typical Carolyn fashion, I am going whether it’s a million below or a million above.

Yesterday, I made two cute little Valentines for each of my coworkers, rockets and robots. They were both such cute ideas that I couldn’t resist trying both of them.

I’ve been researching and test-driving cars, and many dealers have told me that my car would be worth about $500 to them. I put in online for $2000 hoping to get $1000 at least. Fortunately for me, someone saw it and offered me a straight-up $2000. Fearing that I wouldn’t get an offer like this again, I just sold it.

Sean was in the middle of eating leftover Super Bowl pizza and the buyer asked to meet me at the mall in 20 minutes. Boom. I made Sean hurry up and eat, then come with me for the sale.

I’m arranging to get another car, but not until mid-March! Yikes! Sean and I have been carpooling for the past two days. It means we’re getting up at 5, but I think it’s worth it. I can’t wait to show you all pics of my new car when I get it!

I hope my Baby Blue is doing well with her new owners. Does it speak to my empathy that I genuinely feel like my old car will feel abandoned? Maybe I’m just crazy. I felt that way with the family van after I got the Kia, too.

Thanks for being such a good car, Blue. Sorry I yelled at you when you were feeling ill.

We’ll see. Hopefully this new car will last me the rest of my life, because car payments are sure to be my un-favorite sometime soon…
